Expedition Summary

Embark on a sea turtle conservation expedition to Nayarit on Mexico's Pacific coast, where you'll actively contribute to protecting Olive Ridley and Leatherback sea turtles. Engage in nightly patrols to record data on nesting turtles and participate in collecting and relocating nests to a secure hatchery, safeguarding eggs from potential threats like domestic dogs. During the day, activities include caring for hatchlings and nests, releasing hatchlings, and learning about sea turtle conservation. There will also be time to enjoy the beach and immerse yourself in the local culture.

A team of up to 10 members, along with your expedition scientist and leader.

Meeting Point

We will meet in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. From there, we’ll travel to the expedition base in Lo de Marcos, a small fishing village one hour north of Puerto Vallarta.

Accommodation & Food

Participants will stay in a small family-run hotel. Each room is shared between two people and has a private bathroom, or a shared bathroom between two rooms. Single occupancy can be arranged for an extra fee. All meals (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) are included and served at our accommodation. Drinking water is provided, while soft drinks and alcoholic beverages are available for an additional cost.

Weather

Nayarit experiences a tropical climate characterized by year-round warmth. The weather is drier and less intense from December to April, while a muggy, rainy season occurs between June and October. The average temperature during the coldest month (February) is 22 degrees Celsius (71 degrees Fahrenheit), while the warmest month (August) sees an average temperature of 29 degrees Celsius (83 degrees Fahrenheit).

Skills and Fitness

No specific skills or qualifications are required! This expedition is open to everyone, regardless of age or background. Participation in nighttime beach patrols searching for nesting turtles requires a reasonable fitness level but no scientific qualifications.
